People and wellbeing support

Our People and Wellbeing team are highly skilled in working with customers to understand the challenges, develop solutions and deliver services to ensure equitable, diverse and inclusive workplaces where wellbeing is at the heart of everything.

We provide subject matter expertise to customers to strengthen and enhance the underpinning principles of equality and wellbeing to support workforce supply, improve quality of care and meet statutory requirements and efficiency to contribute to excellent patient care.

We draw on national policy drivers and maintain an awareness of the rapidly changing demands. We recognise and reinforce the needs of underrepresented groups with a focus on improving health and wellbeing within the health and care workforce. Using data-driven insights we create and deliver tailored evidence-based people and wellbeing solutions.

We know that different people experience the workplace in different ways. Our holistic approach understands the lived experience of marginalised groups and individuals to support customers to advance equality and wellbeing in their organisations that is impactful and sustainable.

We can help you with the following:

Inclusive resourcing and recruitment
Working across our teams, we use an evidence-based approach to review the existing recruitment process, identify structural barriers for minority communities, and implement interventions to overhaul processes to directly tackle biases and barriers that exist. We use demographic data as well as high-level ESR data on ethnicity, gender and disability to identify where interventions points could add the most value to ensure our recommendations will bring about visible and sustained change, connecting you with underrepresented groups, and creating an end-to-end inclusive recruitment process that is agile and innovative.

Talent development and representation
We understand that although the NHS is one of the most diverse workforces in the UK, it faces ongoing challenges in ensuring proportionate representation of people from different ethnicities, genders, and abilities, particularly at senior leadership level. We work with our customers to understand the data and insights from their organisation and build tailored interventions including self-development models, emotional intelligence and communication skills for managers, and staff from underrepresented communities. We break down barriers using Positive Action in the talent management process to bring about a visible change in representation.

Centring the voices of underrepresented members of the workforce
We provide a platform to enable the voices of marginalised staff to be heard through a range of interventions that are trauma-informed and acknowledge the emotional labour that comes with speaking about your lived experience of discrimination or marginalisation. Using best practice across the sector, we create opportunities for people to share their experiences whether it be through targeted surveys or ‘brave space’ meetings, establishing and setting up staff network for success, or facilitating the bringing together leadership and staff network groups through trust, sponsorship, mentorship and collaboration.

Professional wellbeing support
We help you to ensure wellbeing is embedded in all areas of business by reviewing and/or developing wellbeing team and resources, policies, guidance, strategies, action plans, support services and interventions overview.

Data-driven insights work
Using data that you have available we optimise activities by using information from sources such as staff surveys, wellbeing surveys and sickness rates to develop evidence-based solutions. We measure effectiveness and evaluate the process, outcomes and impact of interventions and services.

Governance, managers and leaders
Managers and leaders have responsibility and accountability for wellbeing. We strengthen healthy leadership behaviours and skills for managers. Examples include establishing wellbeing guardians, workforce development and training to ensure skills in wellbeing topics such as women’s health.

Improving health and wellbeing
We focus on ensuring staff have mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing through assessing workforce wellbeing and identifying healthy lifestyle solutions. Our wellbeing action plans and interventions include training designed and delivered to address topics such as resilience, burnout, stress, long covid, grief, neurodiversity, cost of living, menopause, and financial wellbeing.

Healthy environment
We help to improve workplace environments for all staff to have a safe and healthy workplace, through assessing physical workspaces, facilitation of the provision of restrooms, (hot) food, breaks, flexible working policies, working from home and support for the return to office post-COVID-19.

Fulfilment at work
We work with customers to review and enhance workforce autonomy, contribution, and sense of belonging to empower people to bring their whole selves to work. Through workforce development, such as coaching and mentoring wellbeing conversations, we support you to enhance purpose, potential, and recognition, contributions are recognised, and people have a sense of satisfaction and life balance.

Relationships
Working together and being able to support each other is critical to workplace wellbeing. We work with customers to assess the current situation and explore the provision of services such as staff networks and health and wellbeing champions in the workplace to enhance the relationships colleagues have at work to contribute to patient care and outcomes.
