Providing career paths for ex-military personnel

We understand the value that employing armed forces workers can bring, for both an organisation and the individual, and SCW supports workers leaving the armed forces to find work in the NHS.

SCW has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which reflects our commitment to a wider agenda, representing a promise that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly.

We are proud to hold the Defence Employers Recognition Scheme Gold Award in recognition of our support to armed forces, reservists, veterans and their families through the Step into Health Scheme and our Armed Forces Working Group. We made our pledge of commitment to the Step into Health Scheme in 2017 and re-signed it in June 2022.

Many of our roles in SCW are suitable for employees with an armed forces background, as you might have some, or many, of the transferrable skills that are key to a variety of our roles. These may include skills such as organisation, commitment, leadership and management as well as working to values which align to ours: Patients First, Collaborative, Aspirational, Respectful and Aspirational.

Additionally, we offer flexibility in many of our roles with hybrid working. We are a forces-friendly employer, and we pride ourselves on the supportive environment and culture that we provide for armed forces personnel, their families, and friends. Our Armed Forces Working Group is dedicated to helping improve our guidance and support for service leavers at SCW and we have recently opened up the group to include the families and friends of forces workers.

If you would like to know more about how we support armed forces personnel or would like to speak to someone from the Armed Forces Working Group please email us.
