The NHS SCW workforce optimisation team is hosting a 90 minute taster session on 22 January 2025 for acute and mental health trusts looking to redesign the mental health workforce.
Mental health services, like all parts of the NHS, are experiencing increasing demand and increasing expectations. Without the right expertise and skills mix in place, acute providers in particular can struggle to incorporate and manage mental health support in their services.
Workforce optimisation is an evidence-informed, multi-level process to designing workforce solutions that are sustainable, efficient and cost-effective.
At SCW, our workforce optimisation approach is underpinned by tried and tested design principles which fully align with your current and future requirements, tackle your challenges and leverage your opportunities.
We are hosting an online 90 minute taster session for colleagues across the South East and South West regions working in:
- Acute providers expected to incorporate mental health provision into their services
- Mental health providers wanting to explore working with local partners to redesign the mental health workforce.

By attending, you’ll learn:
- What workforce optimisation is and how it can help us in approaching complex workforce challenges
- The broader benefits of workforce optimisation
- How it can be applied to the mental health workforce within acute settings.
All attendees will participate in an interactive scenario and be supported to begin turning their insights into action. In addition, you will be provided with takeaway activities to start your workforce optimisation journey.
You’ll hear from two expert speakers, Sam Stone and Amanda Sangha, who are experienced in workforce planning and design at a role, team and strategic model level. The workforce optimisation team have led a range of projects including a multidisciplinary workforce redesign project for children and young people mental health services in Surrey.
