We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for the Nursing Times Workforce Summit & Awards. NHS England working with SCW has been shortlisted in the Best Use of Workplace Technology category. This award recognises an organisation that demonstrates the meaningful use of technology to improve the working environment – to give nurses and midwives more time to care.

Project summary
We co-designed a Maternity workforce deployment tool with Directors/Heads of Midwifery and other key stakeholders that drew on key advisory documents. This tool supports maternity leaders with the workforce deployment element of transformation, specifically in relation to Midwifery Continuity of Carer (MCoC). The policy of MCoC means midwives are organised into small teams, maintaining a core staff in hospital. Expectant mothers are ‘staffed’ rather than buildings, allowing midwives to spend more time with women building a relationship.

The winners will be announced on Tuesday, 21 November at Hilton London Metropole.
