We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the HSJ Partnership Awards 2023. Edenbridge Healthcare with SCW and Gillingham South Primary Care Network was shortlisted in the Primary Care Project of the Year award category. This award recognises projects and partnerships improving capacity, service access and ultimately patient outcomes within a specific neighbourhood or system.
Our project, Triage guidance and training with the ELITE programme, concentrated on the triage process and staff training, aiming to reduce avoidable GP appointments. The work was funded by NHSE South East Region.
Project summary
Gillingham South PCN consists of six GP practices supporting a population of 40,000. They participated in the ELITE programme and used APEX software to understand and improve their practice performance. Their improvement project concentrated on the triage process and staff training, aiming to reduce avoidable GP appointments. The changes implemented enabled them to release 2.6% capacity of GPs' time, equivalent to an annual saving of £40,100 – this released capacity was left in place to benefit patients meaning access has been improved. The PCN reported that this was the first time they had worked this closely together on an improvement project.
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, 23 March 2023 at Evolution London.
