Our communications and engagement team worked with the NHS England Greener NHS team, who have a commitment to supporting the NHS in delivering a ‘net zero health service’, to redevelop their FutureNHS online collaboration site – the Greener NHS Knowledge Hub.
Objective
The Greener NHS Knowledge Hub was designed to enable users across multiple organisations to share knowledge, information and ideas on achieving a Greener NHS in a secure environment. Since the formation of ICSs and ICBs, the hub was in urgent need of a refresh to improve the user journey, make it easier to use, improve content, meet the needs of existing users, and expand membership to new stakeholders.

What we did
Our communications and engagement specialists worked with the communications manager at NHS England and the Greener NHS team to refresh the Greener NHS Knowledge Hub. We ensured it was streamlined, user-friendly, fresh and informative.
To do this, we gathered feedback and suggestions for improvements through a user engagement phase, as well as analysis of user activity and members on the existing site. We also engaged with Greener NHS content leads through staff workshops to understand their requirements and aspirations.
The refreshed site, informed by the insights gathered, was developed, tested and refined through an online test group established in the engagement phase. The redeveloped site was then launched, supported by new branded graphics such as email footers and social media cards.

Outcome
Feedback received from both volunteer testers and current users of the refreshed Greener NHS Knowledge Hub has been very positive. The site has a contemporary feel, modern and engaging graphics, good navigation, and relevant and inspiring content.
Membership of the site has increased by 16% in the first three months and levels of engagement after the launch were high. These will be monitored in the coming months to understand the longer-term impact of the site refresh further.
